Description

Walk in the footsteps of gladiators and Roman emperors on this expertly guided fun and informative tour of the Colosseum Arena, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

Enter the Colosseum via the famed “Gladiator’s Gate”.

Start your guided tour at the Colosseum and explore the arena where gladiators and animals fought to the death for the entertainment of bloodthirsty Roman citizens and emperors. See the underground labyrinth of walls and tunnels which operated as a backstage area for the events that took place there.

You will enter the arena via the famed “Gladiator’s Gate” – picture the scene in the Gladiator movie where Maximus and his comrades enter the arena and look around in awe at the crowds in the stadium and you get the picture!

Stand on the spot where the gladiators and animals fought in the bloody games, while your guide tells you fascinating stories about these events (while debunking some popular myths along the way!)

From the arena, you have a bird’s eye view over the underground structure, giving you a unique perspective of how this area functioned as a backstage area – where, unseen by the public, gladiators prepared themselves for battle, animals were kept in cages, and stage props were prepared, to create realistic stage sets on the arena above.

Your guide will explain to you, with the aid of on-site recreations of trapdoors and elevators, how the entire system operated, and will bring you back in time with visual aids, which will allow you to picture how everything was 2000 years ago, while standing on the same spot today!

Not everyone can say that they have stood where the gladiators used to fight, but with this privileged entrance floor Colosseum tour you will be able to.

Stroll through the Roman Forum, where Romans lived out their daily lives. Here, politics, business, state funerals, and military parades all took centre stage.

On this tour, you will see the wall on which famous orators such as Cicero made their speeches. With your expert guide, you will learn the history of Ancient Rome as you walk among 2000 year old ruins. See the wall on which famous orators such as Cicero made their speeches.

The remains of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina and the temples of Julius Caesar and Romulus are among the most interesting, and surprising, remaining buildings in this area.

Your guide will explain the history of the Forum and what the temples, arches, and monuments were used for. You will hear about all the activities that took place in this sacred part of Ancient Rome.

The Palatine Hill was home to the wealthiest of Rome’s noble citizens during the time of the Republic, and later, exclusively the emperor. Today, you can still see remains of some of the imperial palace’s former splendour.

The Palatine Hill looked over the Roman Forum, and it was no accident that the elite ruling class of Rome resided there, eventually becoming home to the Emperors, who built such large residences that the word “palace” takes its name from the hill. Another reason for the importance of this hill was its legendary connection with the birth of Rome.

The views and photo-ops from this vantage point make it a must-visit on any tour of Ancient Rome!
